Description

Hurricane Laura was a deadly and damaging Category 4 Atlantic hurricane that tied the 1856 Last Island hurricane as the strongest hurricane on record to make landfall in the U.S. state of Louisiana. The storm caused the deaths and inflicted an estimated $8.7 billion in damage on southwestern Louisiana and southeastern Texas near the Gulf of Mexico. Combined, these vulnerable Gulf Coast states have more than 850,000 confirmed COVID-19 infections — creating a crisis within a crisis.
